TORNADO WARNING APP
In
conjunction with the National Severe Weather Preparedness Week,
the American Red Cross has released a Tornado App for iPhone and
Android users. This free app, available in English or Spanish,
gives iPhone, iPad and Android smart phone and tablet users
instant access to local and real-time information, so they know
what to do before, during and after a tornado. The app includes
a high-pitched siren and “tornado warning!” alert that signals
when a NOAA tornado warning has been issued in their area, even
if users have the app closed. An “all clear!” alert lets users
know when a tornado warning has expired or has been cancelled.
For more information on the Tornado app and downloading
instructions, click
here. The American Red Cross
has additional free apps for First Aid, Hurricanes, Earthquakes,
etc., that may be useful for you, your neighbors or family and
friends throughout the country so pass the word! Click
here for more information on
those apps. For tornado facts and safety tips from the Ohio
Committee for Severe Weather Awareness, click

Potential
Telephone Solicitation Scam(s)
Be very wary of telephone solicitation calls asking for charitable
contributions on behalf of the Brook Park Police or Fire Departments. We
understand that some of our residents have received calls like in the
past. Our Police and Fire Departments do not telephone solicit for
charitable donations. Calls of this nature should be considered
potential scams. There are, however, non-city police and fire
organizations that do telephone solicit for charitable contributions. If
in doubt, ask the charitable organization to send you information. If
it’s a scam, asking for information to be mailed to you will usually end
the conversation. If they continue to pursue the call, tell them you’re
not interested and hang up the phone.
Also, some scams ask you for your credit card information so they can
charge your charitable contribution to it. You should never give any
personal or credit card information to someone on the phone unless you
know for certain the legitimacy of the call. Again, if they are a
legitimate charity or business, they should be willing to send you the
information in the mail.
CODE RED Emergency Notification System
CodeRED® is a free Brook Park service initiated in 2009 by which City
officials can notify City residents by telephone about emergency
situations or important community alerts/events. The system is capable
of sending messages only to people affected by a particular situation,
or, in the case of a widespread emergency, to the City’s entire
population. The speed of the CodeRED® system (up to 1,000 calls per
minute, on average) is so great that the City is able to send a message
to affected households almost as quickly as City officials become aware
of the situation.
Additionally, we have contracted with CodeRED® to include their
automated Weather Warning Service. This is a voluntary program so that
any resident that wants to be included in this program will have to
register whether your phone number is listed or unlisted. This program
will automatically alert you to impending weather conditions (severe
thunderstorms, tornados, or flash floods) that could impact you and your
family. If your home falls within the weather warning box issued by the
National Weather Service, you will automatically receive a call, day or
night, to alert you to the potentially dangerous situation. Again, the
easy CodeRED® registration form has a box to uncheck if you don’t want
this valuable service.
To access the CodeRED® frequently asked questions (FAQs) and the
registration form, click here. You can also pick up copies of the
registration forms in the lobby at City Hall.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program
To become a member of our team, residents can pick up brochures and
applications in the front lobby of City Hall and at the receptionist
window at the Fire Station on Holland Road, or click here to access the
online registration form. Our training sessions are conducted
bi-annually in the spring and fall and are held at the Southwest General
Health Center. Organizational general meetings are held every two months
with the next meeting. To check out when the next meeting is, click here
to go to the Annual CERT Calendar. If you are interested in joining our
program or want to learn more about our CERT program, please feel free
to attend our meeting or call the Public Safety Director at
216-433-1300 or the Assistant Fire Chief at 216-433-1214.
Airport Acquisition Program
The acquisition of homes in Phase I officially ended on April 26, 2009.
Per the Settlement Agreement, Cleveland now has seven years to decide
whether they want to purchase homes in Phase II, which now includes the
homes on Parkland Ave. through Grayfriar Dr. along Sheldon Rd. The roads
where homes were demolished have been barricaded, and are off-limit to
the public.
Aircraft Noise Complaints
If you experience unusually loud or persistent aircraft noise, you can
call the Cleveland Hopkins Airport Noise Complaint Hotline at
216-898-5220 to inform them of the incident(s). An Airport
Representative will contact you back to address your concern.
