FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What is the water temperature kept at in both pools? It
ranges between 83-85 degrees
2. Do parents/guardians have to be present in the pool when I’m
swimming? All children under the age of 8 must be
accompanied by a parent/guardian in the water at all times.
3. How old do I have to be a certified lifeguard?
15 years old
4. How many lengths of the pool = 1 mile? 72
lengths
5. Can I swim laps anytime during normal business hours?
There is always at least one lap lane available
but please check the pool class schedule located at the front reception
desk or our city’s website for a complete listing of lane availability.
6. Do I have to be a resident to participate in our department’s Learn
to Swim or Water Exercise classes? No, however you
will be accessed a non-resident fee.
7. Can I wear water wings in the pool? No floating
devises are permitted in the pool except for Coast Guard approved life
jackets.

REGISTRATION WILL BE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS REGARDLESS OF
RESIDENCY. PAYMENT UPON REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, UNLESS THE CLASS IS
FULL AND YOU ARE PUT ON A WAITING LIST.
• All LTS classes must
have a minimum of 5-registered participants for the class to run.
• Class days and times are subject to change.
• A class may be cancelled or combined if there are insufficient
numbers.
• Makeup classes must be approved by the Aquatics Director. Make up
classes will only be approved if there is space available in the class.
Refunds/class credits will not be issued for missed classes.

Class
Descriptions
Infant Swim: Ages 6mo. - 2yrs. This class will focus on water
acclimation and interaction between parent and child. Children will
learn basic water skills and how to enjoy the water with songs and
games.
Pre-School I: Ages 2-3 yrs. Parents accompany child into the
water to work on swimming readiness skills. Water adjustment, underwater
exploration and water safety are all part of this beginner class. PLEASE
BE ADVISED THAT IT IS OUR POLICY THAT ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 4
MUST REGISTER FOR PRE-SCHOOL I. REGISTRATION FOR PRE-SCHOOL II MUST BE
APPROVED BY THE AQUATICS DIRECTOR; ACCEPT IONS WILL ONLY BE MADE IF YOUR
CHILD IS WITH IN 4 MONTHS OF TURNING 4 AND IS COMFORTABLE IN THE WATER.
Pre-School II: Age 4 yrs. Children work on swimming readiness
skills, and learn to be comfortable in the water. All participants will
learn front float, back float and work on the basics of stroke
technique. PARENTS WILL NOT BE IN THE WATER WITH THEIR CHILD.
Level I: Ages 5 and up. Children learn to be comfortable in the
water, and work on swimming readiness skills. Participants will learn
water safety, floating and going under water with blowing bubbles.
Treading water introduced.
Level II: Ages 5 and up. Child should swim independently. This
class will work on front crawl with rotary breathing and back crawl.
Level III: Ages 5 and up. Child must be able to swim front crawl
15 yds. with rotary breathing. Exploration of deep water, elementary
backstroke, dolphin & breaststroke kick and diving.
Level IV: Ages 5 and up. Child must be able to swim 25 yd of
front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. Also child must be
able to swim 15 yd of breaststroke. Open turns and deep water skills
will be covered.
Level V: Ages 6 and up. Child must be able to swim 50 yd of front
and back crawl, 25 yd elementary backstroke breaststroke, butterfly and
sidestroke. Flip turns will be introduced.
Level VI: Ages 6 and up. Child must be able to swim 100 yds. of
front crawl and back crawl with turns. Breaststroke, butterfly,
sidestroke and elementary backstroke should be defined. Swimmers will
work on executing these strokes with greater ease, efficiency and power.
Endurance workouts will be part of this class.

WATER EXERCISE
Monthly on-going sessions will
be offered. The Aquatics Department offers medium-high
intensity water exercise, water walking, deep water, and Arthritis water
exercise.

REGISTRATION WHICH CLASS YOU WILL BE ATTENDING MOST OFTEN.
• REGISTRATION FEES WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE FRONT DESK AT THE BEGINNING
OF EVERY MONTH. ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN-IN FOR EACH CLASS
ATTENDED.
• CLASS TIMES AND FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
• NON MEMBERS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO USE THE RECREATION FACILITY

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Aquastics
This class is a medium intensity, shallow water exercise. Warm-up,
cardiovascular aerobics, and cool down are all part of this one-hour fun
and calorie-burning workout. Music keeps the beat going! Tammy Rice,
certified instructor.
Splashtastics
This class is medium to high intensity, shallow water exercise. Warm-up,
cardiovascular exercise and cool down are all part of this one hour
aerobic workout. Come join the fun and stay fit. Music keeps the beat
going! Nancy Brandes, certified instructor.
Aqua Fit
This class is medium to high intensity, shallow water exercise.
Equipment such as water barbells and noodles will be used for
resistance. Warm-up, cardiovascular exercise, toning and cool down are
all part of this one hour aerobic workout. Music keeps the beat going!
Abby Szeszak, Ashley Eddinger, certified instructors.
Deep Water Exercise
Must be a swimmer to join. All exercises are performed in deep water for
more resistance and less stress on the ankle joints. Water jogging,
jumping jacks, kicking, and cross country skiing are some of the
exercises that will be demonstrated with a water belt. Tammy Rice and
Terry Clerc, certified instructor.
Arthritis Water Exercise-Beginner
This class is in conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation. This class
is designed to decrease participants pain and stiffness, increase range
of motion and improve balance and coordination. This 45 minute class
involves water walking, stretching and breathing exercises. This class
is designed for the beginner water walker. Shirley Klun, certified
instructor.
Pilates -LAND (Tuesday’s Only)
This is a beginner class consisting of very gentle exercises done on a
mat in either a sitting or lying down position. The primary focus is on
awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility.
The outcome of Pilates training is a balanced body which is strong and
supple, tighter stomach muscles, balanced legs and a strong back. Mats
are a requirement for this class. All participants will be required to
supply their own mat at this time. Please be advised that this class
will be taking place on the pool deck. The air temperature in the pool
is @86 degrees and very humid, so please dress appropriately. Also, it
is required that you were slip resistance footwear due to the deck may
be wet.

AQUATIC GUIDELINES
1. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by their own
parent/guardian while in the pool/locker room area. A parent/guardian
may sign a waiver giving permission for their child(ren) to be with
another adult other than their own parent/guardian.
2. Strollers, baby chairs, car seats, etc. are allowed in the pool area
but may not be left unattended.
3. The steam, sauna, and hydro areas are for Adults only. Children under
18 are prohibited.
4. Long hair must be controlled with swim caps or rubber bands. Metal
clips or pins are prohibited.
5. Proper swim suits are to be worn in the pool and steam, sauna and
hydro areas.
6. Children under the age of 8 must have a parent/guardian with him/her
at all times.
7. Children 6 years of age or older may not use the locker room of the
opposite sex. Family changing rooms are available. See a supervisor at
the front desk. Remember, these rooms were designed for those
individuals that need assistance, such as young children and persons
with a disability and are encouraged to have assistance by another
adult.
8. Lockers are available at no charge but locks must be provided by the
user. Locks must be removed after use or they will be cut off.
9. No floating devices are permitted. This includes: water wings,
bathing suits with float inserts and baby boats. Coast Guard approved
life jackets are only permitted.
10. All non-swimmers must stay in shallow water.
11. Parents must accompany all non-swimmers. Life jackets will not
replace adult supervision.
12. Lifeguards have final authority.
